Decoding uses Apple's own audio engine; the MP3 is written by LAME, on your device. Turn on airplane mode and it still works.

How it works

    From Photos, from Files, or through the Share sheet. The system picker hands over only the file you choose — the app never gets access to your library.

  2. Choose the format

    MP3, M4A or WAV, and the bitrate. The estimated size is shown before anything runs.

  3. Get the file

    Converted on your phone, verified by iOS, saved where the Files app can see it. Share it anywhere.

Privacy, in one paragraph

Tonify does not upload your videos. Conversion happens on your iPhone using Apple's AVFoundation and the open-source LAME encoder, which is why it works in airplane mode. The app has no advertising identifier and no analytics SDK. The only network call it makes is to verify your subscription through RevenueCat and the App Store. If you write to us through the contact form, we keep what you send until the question is answered.

Questions

Can it download from YouTube?
No. Tonify converts videos that are already on your phone. Downloading from streaming sites is against the App Store rules and we do not do it.
Can the app set my ringtone automatically?
No app can — iOS does not allow it. Tonify makes the .m4r file and shows you the two ways to install it: the system's own Use as Ringtone action on iOS 26, or GarageBand on iOS 18.
Is there a free version?
You get one free conversion so you can see it work. After that, Pro unlocks unlimited conversions, all formats and ringtones. The price, the renewal date and how to cancel are all shown on the purchase screen before you pay.
What formats can it read?
Anything your iPhone can play: MP4, MOV, M4V, HEVC, and audio files like M4A, WAV or AAC. DRM-protected files cannot be read by any app.
How long can a video be?
There is no limit built into the app. Long files take longer and need free space for the output — keep the app open while it runs.
Where do my files go?
Into the Files app, under On My iPhone › Tonify. They are ordinary files: move them, share them, back them up.
